FTP Academy SNL Update

For all you Podsters who participate in the FTP Academy...

The SNL quiz satellites are now available to register. You do have to go manually register for each one. Yes, I just went and registered for 20 tournaments which start five minutes apart from each other. Sounds crazy, but it's really not as crazy as it seems. I don't really plan on playing all of them, although I might for the practice. Heck, you can get away with not being online for any of them and qualifying for the $5k SNL freeroll. The top 100 in each satellite tournament advance and there are plenty right now which are well under that threshold.

Most of us will be online for the PokerPod Home Game and our Birthday celebration anyway, right? HA!

I do advocate registering for all you qualified for... and if you took one of the FTPA SNL quizzes, believe me, you qualified (the top 1000 for each quiz can register for the corresponding satellite and few of the quizzes got that many). The main benefit is it theoretically keeps as many people out of the freeroll as possible, which is a very good thing, indeed. The more times you finish in the top 100, the less chance for someone else to sneak through. And that's just if you qualify by sitting out, not to mention if you actually play in some and knock other players out whose qualification might be limited to the one satellite.

Last time, they kept playing after they got down to 100 players. At that point, there might be some value to playing it out to possibly get reads on the players you might face in the $5k freeroll, but I'd probably quit to move on to the next satellite or even the rest of your saturday poker schedule.

To register for these tournaments go to the main tournaments tab and scroll down to 15:00-16:30 pm server time on Sept. 12 and you'll see them under a green font as restricted. Again, there are 20 of them, but it doesn't take that long to just go through and attempt to register for them all. You're probably not sick like me and finish each quiz every month... it's for my poker education, really (yeah, that's a load of... whatever)... but it won't take you long to go through them all and find the one or more you qualified for - 5-10 minutes at the most. The last one labeled micro-stakes will probably have the fewest people if you're just looking to do the one which is easiest to qualify and be done with it.

This is one of the juicier freerolls you'll ever find on FTP. Last month, only 330 qualified from the 18 satellites (they've since added two more) with the top 90 getting at least $20. And I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't with a lot of sit outs. Remember, as it stands right now, people who won't even show up for the satellites will automatically qualify for the $5k freeroll.

Thought I would bump this up again. This weekend is the last chance to get in your SNL quizzes and qualify for the satellites to the October$5k SNL Freeroll.

Last month, there were a lot more players who qualified for the freeroll, but even the minimum payout was still great value. It still pays out a ridiculous percentage of players and pays them pretty darn well.

I did play quite a few of the satellites last month before an emergency took me away from the computer, and played until I eliminated as many as I could before they got down to the 100 who moved on to the $5k freeroll... for the few of the satellites which actually had more than 100 entrants. It's really a fool's errand, I know this... probably as close to -ev as you can get in this situation... but it's really the best way to do what you can to limit the field, increasing the value of the tournament for yourself and your fellow Podsters!

Now, I know I saw quite a few Pod regulars registered for the $5k freeroll, but I don't know everyone's screen names, so I don't know if anyone cashed-in last month. I'd like to know how everyone did. Myself, I unfortunately couldn't play in it due to the aforementioned emergency... but I've already got it on my calendar for next month!

But just so everyone knows... you don't actually have to answer any of the questions right to qualify for the SNL satellite... most fall well under the 1000 limit of qualifiers for the satellite.

In fact, every month... I take the quiz first and then redo the lessons where I missed enough questions to think I need a refresher. I've found the most recent Lessons are getting easier and easier (Gordon's - Game Selection - just released today!!!, Ryan Daut's Value Betting, Gus Hansen's - Controlling the Table, Eric Froehlich's - Micro Stakes). They're all quick and easy and few people play them, so they're the easiest way to qualify for the $5k SNL freeroll.

bump... only two days left! Get your quizzes done! Satellites on Oct. 10. $5k SNL Freeroll on Oct. 11. Same days as the Full Tilt Poker OFC FR and buy in, so you'll already be on. So, just like the Take 2 promo... no reason not to do it!

^5 I've got all but like six of them done and i'll do them on wednesday i think. Obviously, I've done plenty to advance to the satellites and beyond. Out of the 23, I've got perfect scores in 10 of them and nearly perfect on 3 others... and that's without doing the Lessons first. I'd like to get it as close to getting them all perfect as I can.

Yeah, pretty disappointing Grimmiii... and a big waste of my morning... oh well. Truthfully, next weekend would be better anyway. This is the second time they've have had this mistake, and I could see them having problems yesterday, but I was too busy to make any remark about it here.

The quizzes are so easy as it is... and you don't actually get anything for getting them perfect. Just doing them is more important than how you do on them.

BTW... the PLO quiz is super easy.

Anybody still in the $5k SNL Free roll right now? My table has only one other player from the US on it. I started off really up and down but I'm almost 6k now.
