Academy Challenge
« on: July 19, 2009, 09:36 »
So to get myself motivated to play a little more on FTP, and read and learn more,  ive decided to join Full Tilt Academy. Ive laid out a few rules,

1. I will use $10 of my bankroll to start the challenge. I'm only allowed two rebuys of $10 if i go busto! otherwise freeroll time!

2. I have to watch one video from the academy archives before i sit down to attempt a challenge. (this will also have to be part of my update post here)

3. i will start out on the micros and work up instead of jumping st8 into the .5/.10 and up

4. i will post here before i start my next challenge, what the challenge is and then post when i have completed it!

task one is; (Click image to enlarge)

(took pic after started cos was too lazy to type em out!!!!) Dont laugh at the bluff one was completed first Pammy!

Ferguson's video on bankroll management is awesome.
But reading books is far cooler Koda. ;)

Finished two of the challenges, the SNG which was VERY easy and the "Power of Position" which was pretty time consuming, but turned out to be profitable on the micro tableswhere i pushed up to $16.64 and got an entry to the daily dollar through the turbo in the SNG challnege.

next aim is 500 academy points so i can open full access.

The aim at the moment is the purchase of this....

which is 5000 academy points!

will update shortly. Next one is a MTT challenge so could take a little longer!

sweet day today. Ive completed half of Jen Harmans challenge, but due to the pro play i don't think this will be finished for a few days. Difficulty level is 6 (the highest i have access to yet), and the pro task requires 4 sessions where you win 4 pots of 8xbb. Its easily done, but together with not blowing you buy in and making smart plays, especially at micro's, u gotta be patient. My session was about 2 hours, i completed 2 of the 4 standard tasks (its nearly impossible to re-raise a raiser in micro and get them to fold, 9/10 they go all in (today was 10/10) but hey ill get one soon.

I did the MTT challenge and came out with a $14 profit which was great, may do another tomorrow, although the Turbos are horrible (never been a fan!) but cant complain with the cash, and first in a 27ppl normal one.

From my initial $10 i invested in this, im now on $37.68, so I'm gonna pay back my initial $10 and use the remainder as "free" academy money. This also gives me 3 more $10 buy ins (instead of 2) if i go busto! (see original post)

I'm also gonna use the bankroll manager spreadsheet to keep track and find my weaknesses and strengths as i progress. Sitting on 342 Points now and if i get another cash game session later i can hopefully push this over 500 to get VIP access.

I also downloaded and installed Pokertracker today which is absolutely brilliant. normally i am usually doing 2 or 3 things at once, the ability to have the HUD and stats available on players is a definite bonus. I sat with $2 this morning and walked from one with $6.32 and another with $4.20, so i highly recommend this program if u got the $$. they are also not illegal as they only provide tracking stats, but the information you can get is brilliant.

woot! Completed Jen Harmans challenge, and probably will do it again (can do each challenge 10 times). Im going to keep it in the cash game and my next challenge will be Lederers. Ill then probably do Jens challenge again after that.

Win a pot pre-flop by re-raising without a pocket pair or an ace in your hand.
(1 part task)   Why This Task?  |  Task Details

# Win a pot by betting on two streets (the flop and turn) with no pair.

# Win a pot by calling a bet on the flop with no pair, then betting the turn.
(1 part task)   Why This Task?  |  Task Details

# Fold top pair or better on the flop or turn to an opponent who bets into you.
(1 part task)   Why This Task?  |  Task Details

# The Pro Play  -  Play 4 sessions of NLHE that are 6-handed or greater. In each session win 5 pots. Your net profit in each of the hands must be at least 8 big blinds.

The next challenge im going to do is Howard Lederers "Betting Basics" and is as follows;

    * At an 8 or 9-handed table, open raise exactly 3 times the big blind pre-flop with AK, AQ, or a pair 99 or higher from middle or late position.

    * Bet the flop with top pair or better where at least one of your hole cards factors into your hand (kicker doesn’t count). Repeat 3 times.

    * Win the pot by betting the flop when you failed to flop a pair or better. Repeat 3 times.

    * Win a pot where you bet and get called on the flop, turn and river. You must bet and get called on every street post-flop and showdown the best hand to win the pot.

    * The Pro Play  -  Win the pot by check-raising the flop as a semi-bluff.

This is worth 250 points.

Currently i have $25.52 (+3 rebuys after paying back $10 to my normal bankroll)
